blogging with gnome-blog
It’s been a looooong time since I’ve done any Ubuntuguru blogging. But just to prove I’m still alive and neck deep in my beloved ubuntu here’s a little tip about posting to blogs using the gnome-blog package. It didn’t work for me trying to access blogger.com, but appears to work for posting to wordpress. Setup was easy; I selected “Self run wordpress” entered my name and password and my wordpress url and clicked “Lookup blogs” and there it was. (I’ve also tried using blogtk 1.1 but haven’t had any success with getting it connecting yet.)
So why use gnome-blog when my browser is currently open and I could have logged in. The appeal of using this package is it’s simplicity. Is has a nice clean interface that with one click I start writing and with another click I’ve posted. It makes it easy to take a second to go ahead and follow my momentary (and lately fleeting) urge to blog. When there are so many things competing for my time and attention lately, I don’t have time to mess around. I like how the “Post Blog Entry” window (on Ubuntu Netbook Remix) is maximized and pretty much the only thing on my screen so I am focused on my writing. My only complaint is no button for inserting pictures…
To take a moment to rant… personally I dislike all the visual pollution and clutter that’s happened to web sites in the past 10 years. I recall fondly the simple, to-the-point text web pages that were common in the early years of the web. On most web pages currently there’s two dozen brightly colored little boxes & advertisement everywhere all over the screen, flashing, bleeping, like I’m standing in a casino beside the slot machines in Vegas. It’s made me want to tune out and drop out. Surf no more. I’m spending more time with print materials lately it seems. I like my magazines, which are pleasant to my eyes. No frigging annoying animations hijacking the article I’m reading. Sigh… I had to get that off my chest.
